THis is what I have noticed with my X5 too...the lumbar doesn't do what I would like it to do. Its not that bad, but just not quite perfect. Seems like its impossible to get it to be out and down. If you go out...it moves up....and the up position is not quite the right position for an average sized person such as myself. 5'9"

I have the standard seat with lumbar option. I haven't had any problems with the lumbar self-inflating last summer (SoCal here).

As Digi mentioned, the support doesn't go down far enough and actually starts working its way OUT and UP if you keep holding the down button. However, I'm 6'2" and I found the support helpful to get that "perfect" adjustment.
