My dealer just sold me a CPT 7000 and PSE box for a January
2001 production X5.

Can the CPT 7000 be used with the appropriate PSE box on the existing prewire or does the 8000 have to be used?

The data comm between phone and MID are fine but the dual VC speakers aren't working with the hands-free.

Any clues here would be appreciated.

Bill

The 8,000 can not be used with a 7,000 PSE, not PSU,whatever that is. If you want to use the 8,000 you have to replace the PSU with a TCU (telematics control unit). If you don't, the 8,000 will work but you will take a chance freezing up the board/monitor/mid and have an excessive drain on your car battery. In addition, YOU CAN get any rate plan available anywhere in the country with the new 8,000. Here's what BMWNA has to say about it "Question - Can BMW clients get one-rate calling plans with the new Digital CPT8000 phone system?
Answer - Yes. All four carriers (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint PCS, Cingular) offer one rate and all in one type calling plans on either a regional or national basis. Please consult each carrier for specific and up-to-date information on rate plans." Good luck,
Serge
