Well, technically Race is right in that the X5 will not actually apply the throttle to any of the wheels, but in another sense, the computer can allow certain wheels to accelerate when the driver is pressing the accelerator pedal. So, in a sense, you are telling the computer that you want to accelerate and it is accelerating certain wheels based on your request.
