X5 handling (archive)

Okay, so I know that the X5 handles well, but today it really proved itself to me. I was driving in what can only be called a rain/sleet/snow storm with limited visibility on a road I've never been on. There was no traffic in site and I was accelerating up a hill, hitting 80 as I neared the top. It was only when I got to the top that I realized there was a curve, and I was going way too fast. I tapped the brakes and turned into the curve, wondering if this was going to end up badly. As the X5 smoothly took the curve at double the posted speed and triple the "sane" speed given the weather conditions, I couldn't help but let out a "woohoooooo!" :-)

Anyway, I'm not advocating irresponsible driving, but any other SUV and many cars would have ended up off the road given the same conditions. If all cars were engineered like BMWs I'd bet that accidents and casualties would be reduced.

I took some pictures that I'll post soon, including one that was just a few seconds before I came upon the curve.
