It's too bad that the car manufacturers can't agree on some sort of standard interface for the various systems. There is no good reason why you should not be able to plug the V1 into the car and tell it to put the display on the info bar in the gauge cluster or on the nav display.

Let us know what you do and how it works. I've been driving SUVs for years and the X5 is the first one that has me thinking that maybe I really do need a detector.

I have my V1 main unit high up and to the right of the rear view mirror.
The small concealed display is placed on the left side of the main instrument cluster on the fron of the ledge. It is just right for seeing the lights and pushing the mute button easily.

I had the whole thing wired by my BMW dealer for about $200. Not cheap but then the who cares after $60k for the car.
