The chrome "4.4i" characters were left off from both your front quarter panels. It doesn't matter 3.0, 4.4, or SP. It is supposed to be there for the 2001 model year.
If I am understanding you correctly, this is error on many levels. From assembly through several levels of quality assurance. To intentionally leave them of would be a model year design change. The X5 isn't there yet. Ask your dealership. They need to install. You have to think about resale. Something like this, although novel, might impact you later when you sell the car.

I don't care about resale and the way this thing drives a few cents worth of pot metal shouldn't deter the next owner. I just think some kid in south carolina got a souvenier.
