They got such a black coating from the exhaust that I didn't think they could be cleaned. I think it was Alpina that mentioned using wadding polish. The chrome cleaned up really nice, and now I keep them spotless. Don't use the wadding on the black exhausts, though.

The dealer says the thick black deposits are normal, but I haven't ever seen them on any other vehicle I have owned. X5 4.4 runs spectacularly with never-ending power!
