Is X5 parking brake the disc brakes? (archive)

I know on many cars that the parking brake is actually separate from the regular brakes. This is so that if the normal brakes go out you still have something to stop with. It's often a simple drum brake on the rear axle connected via a mechanical system such as a wire, which is less likely to fail than hydraulics. Of course my knowledge in this area is dated, so I may be wrong about what the X5 has/does.
