Based on the upcoming 2 series mechanicals with X5 styling, the new X1 "Isetta" is BMW's answer to the rising cost of fuel. At 1500 pounds and with a .8 liter 80 horsepower inline six, the X1 scoots from 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and delivers 58 MPG. It has an X5-derived AWD system that provides a 35/65 split between the two front and single rear wheels. By placing the rear seats to either side of the single rear wheel, four passenger seating is possible. BMW expects this vehicle to be a hit with the under 20 crowd.
