I was checking the BMW X5 catolog. I read the figures for gas milages between 3.0i and 4.4i. (European models, but US models should be bery close figures, too...)

3.0i with manual transmission spends 12.7 liters of gas per 100 kilometers. (City & Highway driving combined)
3.0i with steptronic transmission spends 12.9 liters of gas per 100 kilometers. (City & Highway driving combined) --As you can see the steptronic gives you almost as good gas milage as the manual transmission. This is excellent!

But, even better thing is;

4.4i (with Steptronic ofcourse) spends 13.9 liters of gas per 100 kilometers (City & Highway driving combined.)

So the 4.4i only spends 1 liter more per 100 kilometers. This brings up this question: Is 3.0i really worth the money? I mean you pay alot of money, but get much less horsepower and torque than 4.4i. The psychological "good" point that every 3.0i owner thinks is that, "Yes but 3.0i uses less gas..." But infact they don't, I guess. I copied those figures right from the BMW X5 European Catolog. Infact, should we say that it a great success for 4.4i to use only 1 liter more per 100 kilometers than 3.0i?

I don't know guys, what do you say???

John
