I did the opposite of what you are considering.

Traded a 99' 740iL for a 00 X5 4.4i.

With the new 7 coming in 6-12 mos. I would expec the used 7's to take a big hit on price (new and used).

Like the other posts, it depends what kind of ride you were looking for.

We have the 740iL (long wheel base) and after being in the car for less than 6 months, my wife and I felt the car was too big for us. In addition, we had a number of problems with our 740.

The 740i is the shorter wheel base. I'll assume
you are looking at a Sport Pkg on the 7, look's sharp.
