I would absolutely go with the the MB Quartz speakers. I have them in all my cars, including my 740il. I put in JL Audio subs, MB Quartz speakers, and two amps. It was a tremendous difference over the top of the line stock system I replaced. I am waiting for a new X5 right now and will immediately upgrade the stock system right away.
For a great idea of what you can do with an X5 install, check out the Feb/March issue of Mobile Entertainment Magazine. I don't think it is archived on their Internet site, so you may have to track down the magazine. They did a very nice upgrade on a 4.4 X5. It should give you a great idea of what you can do. I would also recommend upgrading at least one 4 channel amp for those MB Quartz speakers.
Good Luck!
Has anyone had their X5 speakers upgraded at Car Toys? This is a chain, possibly regional but I'm not sure. They have a few locations in the Denver/Boulder/etc. area. I asked about speakers and they said that they've installed MB Quarts in other X5s, even going so far as to show me the stock speakers, etc. from a recent installation. I can tell you that the stock speakers look like low quality parts, and it's no wonder they don't sound so great.
Anyway, I'm considering taking the plunge and wanted to know if anyone had good or bad experiences with these guys. They brought up the complex door assemblies and noted that it takes a few hours to do the installation as a result. I took this as being a good sign, and they also made me feel better by guaranteeing no cutting and retaining the stok appearance.
Regarding the MB Quarts, what's a good price for replacing all of the speakers, including installation?
Thanks,
