Thanks for the info. I decided to upgrade the speakers first and then get an upgraded amp if needed. The installer didn't think that I should get the amp until I heard it with just the new speakers. He said that they can put the amp in the compartment where the stock amp, nav, etc. are, but that it would have to fan-cooled. No big deal, but if it was noisy I'd worry.

I may also go for subwoofers at some point, but I'm not a total bass-nut and will get them only if needed. It appears that they can put them in the right-side panel, which I think is where they go for the upgraded BMW system.
