It helps if the particular turn you want to experiment with has lots of run-off area just in case. Understeer and Oversteer are both something that everyone should be familiar with in their vehicles just to establish the limits. Naturally the public roads are not the playground for this type of driving. I learned these at the track but now have better control and confidence driving my cars regardless of the speed.So to answer your question about losing it, well I aproach the limits of the vehicle slowly so as to not over do it. The tyres talk to you by the sound they make. When a "squeal" turns into a "howl" then that is the point when you'll probably lose it. How do I know this? A few high speed spins at Sebring's Carosel in the race car raises one's hearbeat to redline! So now I listen to the tyres well.
