What I learned about the direct wire install.
If you don't need the flatwire direct "smartcord" remote head for $30, you can use a simple phone cord, like an extra one from a telephone kit from you house! Be sure to look at the phone cord clear connector to see if the are four different colored wires going into it because some are two wires and some are very small gauged (they are not colored)wires that won't work well. Match up ONLY the two inner pair, green and red, to the colors on the shipped coiled smartcord from the manufacturer to the ones on the phone cord, DISCARD THE YELLOW AND BLACK, they are for the mute and warning light on the smartcord head. You can install in just like the "stealth" install mentioned on www.bmwtips.com for the V1 by removing the overhead light and sunroof panel and snaking the wire up with the mirror wiring to the ungo conector harness for switched power.
