A plating company uses a different material than the standard gold, the material turns the existing badge to a black-gold color(dark gun metal). I think this looks nice, however, I ended up just removing all the badges for a cleaner look (X5 and 4.4i badges). In order to do this, use a blow dryer/heat gun to heat up the badge adhesive and then use fishing line behind the badge to loosen the adhesive. And clean remaining residue off with Goo Gone.
