I use the CPT8000 with Cingular. The phone works perfectly as a portable, but it still has problems in the vehicle. My X5 was delivered at the end of March 2001. At the time, the phone was not available. I then got the CPT8000 kit through the dealer on April 19. I paid $695 for the TCU, $595 for the phone, and $320 for the voice recognition. They installed it, and on my way home I discovered that when somebody called me, the NAV display would show a call, and the radio would mute ... but after 1/2 second it would go back to normal with no ringing ever. But if I pulled the unit out of the eject box it would then start ringing. After swapping the TCU (no improvement), and installing the optional "compensator" (another $452) (no improvement), the dealer got me a new portable phone, and the problem stopped happening. Except ... now it still happens about 10% of the time. That's still unacceptable. And, if every time I start a call in the vehicle, hands-free, and then flip open the handset to continue the call privately, I can't adjust the volume at all.The dealer seems clueless, as I suspect I am his first and only customer to install the CPT8000 in an X5. He has difficulty even getting a call back from tech support. I've told him to escalate this and get it fixed, or I'll call BMW and start at the top and work down. For that amount of money it should work - and work right.
I strongly suspect that the software in the TCU has a bug in it. Either that, or I got another bad phone. When you get yours, I'll be VERY interested to hear how it works.
FYI - the part numbers they got for me for a Cingular phone are:
Phone: 84-11-0-027-886
TCU/Eject box: 84-11-0-025-679
I can't guarantee they are right for your build date though. (Maybe they're not even right for mine.)
