Anyone Experience Tran Failsafe Program?? (archive)

This morning, my wife was driving our 00' X5 4.4i and the Tran Failsage Program kicked in, essentially shutting off the transmission (no acceleration). She stopped, put the X5 in Park, then back to drive and everything seemed okay.

A check of the owners manual stated that something trigger in the trans program to cause (obviously) and provided the indicator does come on again, everything should be fine.

Unfortunely, a similiar thing happened to her in our previous 99' 740iL, that time it was the Engine Failsafe Program.

Has anyone else experienced a One-time occurence and did you take it in to get checked out? My wife is questioning the reliability of Bimmers, given these 2 incidents.
