yes you ARE asking too much from your SAV. it's an 'light truck'. your 540i is a sport sedan. compare a truck with a sports car and you get an obvious answer. X5 is a great vehicle, handles and drives better than any other SUVs or Vans and has great resale values(which is one of the reasons i like about my X5) not to mention the fact it's a symbol of success, envy prestige etc. but it's not a car. it's a truck.
This am, I took a solo drive on my 2 months old x5 44 SP and wound the thing up to 100. While it got there kinda fast, it was definitely bumpier and the steering's lighter than what I accustomed to which is my '98 540ia SP. On the 540ia, I would be at 120-130 in no time and be pretty stable at that speed. The 540ia's steering tracks better at that speed than the x5 which in conjunction with the relatively light freeway traffic didn't give me the confidence I needed to go faster still. I guess I'm asking too much from the Sport part of SAV...
