I happened to show the "film" to my wife because she is Brazilian (get the connection).
So while the women in the film is speaking Portuguese the song is not.
Since my wife also happens to have an incredible love for music she knew the song immediately and produced one of her CD's (she has about 600-700) containing the song.
It is a CD titled "Gracias a la Vida" by Mercedes Sosa. We couldn't decide if the singer in the film was Ms. Sosa though. I said "No" and my wife said "Maybe".
However Ms. Sosa has a beautiful voice and the other songs on the CD are very nice as well.

PS - The song's composer is Silvio Rodriguez Dominguez. I think he is Cuban.
