I asked my dealer, and the technician said, it is part for the "Airduct" system. It has something to do with the air circulation for the X5 aerodynamics.

One close and one is open.

Please let me know if you have both "flap" like cover things on the rear side of the front bumper in front of the tires.

There are two pull down flaps (probably to reach some wiring) or something on left and right side right in front of tires (black plasticky thing) It looks like a flap like we have for the GPS or the electric fuses.

My left side flap is missing. The right side plastic cover is there. Please check your vehicles and let me know...so that i can ask my dealer.
