The premium sound is another issue. I really dug my heels into the ground over this option because I wanted the improved sound. But again Digi is right; the sound is improved, but $1200.00 worth of improvement?
I am by no means an audiophile junky, and I don't know alot about crossovers and how many amps and subs and whatyumacallits go into upgrading. But, my salesman should me an after market upgrade that was WAY cheaper than dealer installed cd changer and premium sound.
It had the same Alpine changer with a custom made 8" sub and a JL Audio amp. The sound was much more brilliant than the premium (in my humble opinion). The After market upgrade was approximately $1200.00 for EVERTHING installed. I am getting mine put in this week-end.
The down side. You don't get the DSP, which a lot of contributors to this site say is not very impressive. Also, since it is aftermarket, it is NOT included in the warranty with BMW. It will have its own warranty through whomever sells it to you, but it will only be be for a year. Keep that in mind.
