You can always do things a lot of different ways in photoshop, but here are a few ways you can experiment with. It helps if you choose a picture where the basic color you want to change only appears on the car body. E.g., in the image I worked with, the original car was red and there was no other red in the image.

Method 1: use image->adjust->selective color and then choose the color that matches your car color. You can then manipulate cyan, magenta, yellow, and black levels.

Method 2: use image->adjust->replace color and then pick your car color by clicking on the car. You can then manipulate hue, saturation, and lightness.

Method 3: try to select the car body using the select->color range function, and give a wide enough range to get the entire body. You may need to manually deselect some other crap that gets included. You can then do an image->adjust->hue/saturation to adjust hue, saturation, and lightness.
