I spoke to a BMW official who told me that the X5 Si (4.6) is the next version in the pipeline and will be here within 8 months. There is no M version as such in the pipline, just a showcar and concept that is being developed under covers. They most certainly would not be testing it in the US at this point, so I guess its just a guy that added the bar in front and sidebars and M badge (the first two are options, the third is something you can just stick on).

Don't be disappointed, the Si version is, in effect, an M version. Its amazing, with its huge Mags, tires, brake discs and exhausts!!

Saw a silver X5 in a suburban Chicago dealership today with M badges in place of the 4.4i on the sides and the X5 on the tailgate. A kid who worked there was driving it out of the garage and he said it was not the 4.6, but the 4.4 with a euro package. I did'nt get a great look at it, but the exterior seemed similar to a regular 4.4 (other than the M badges) with body color bar in front and body-color running boards. Anyone have any more info on this euro package? Does it really come with M badges or did the owner just decide to put them on himself? Sorry if someone's already posted about this - I only read the forum occasionally.
