X5 3.0 Steering Problem...very hard and very heavy (archive)

Hello.

When I first rec'vd my 2001 X5 3.0 I was very satisfied...it was wonderful...it did everything a BMW was suppose to do. Now, after a steering recall has been performed on it the steering is now requiring a lot, and I mean a lot of muscle effort to manuever it though a parking lot, driveway and any other tight spot...what happened to my "Rack * Pinion, engine-speed-sensitive variable power assist" steering system.

Now I do not claim to know everything on anything...but doesn't the above mentioned long-named steering system provide more assisted-power at low speeds than at say highway speed, and if so why would it no longer function.

I only have 7,000 miles on this car. Is anyone else having the same problem...very hard and very heavy steering while manuevering through parking lots and driveways.????

My 1999 328i, which also had rack and pinion steering was never like this. My little 4 cylinder 1998 Z3 also had better assisted steering than I'm getting now.

My dealership service manager is telling me their is no problem...of course.

Please...if anyone knows where I can find a resolution to this problem please respond.....before I return this car...and get myself into a newly redesigned roll-over prone ford explorer...

TIA for any and all help..

BTW...I love my 2001 740i sport...can't get enough of this car.
