with my rear head rests not coming off. Checked with the dealer and he said just pull really hard. I have comfort seats, but before I would pull as hard as I did to get the rear headrests off, I would ask the dealer to be sure. I'd hate to damage the mechanism, like you say, but they probably just pull out.
