Thanks for the info. Good luck with your X5. My understanding is that BMW considers oil consumption at, or in excess of, 1 quart/1000 miles to unacceptable. Above that they won't take any action.
... (600 or so of which were my return from Spartanburg from pickup). Not sure whether it was 100% full from the factory, so will now start tracking it.

Are many people having problems with X5 3.0 oil consumption? My oil consumption is up to approx. 1 quart/5000 miles.
