I check mine fairly regularly (every 3rd fillup or so) and so far haven't noticed any consumption at 3800 miles. I usually have the oil changed every 3000 miles out of habit and because I've never had problems doing so, but my dealer swears that letting the little idiot lights tell me when I need service is fine. When you change it that often the car really has to be burning or leaking oil if you fill it up between.

I'll check mine soon as I'm now curious. Speaking of fluids, does anyone know about the BMW's AWD system? On most 4x4s, AWDs, etc. that I've owned, the fluids in the transfer cases, etc. are checked regularly and changed every so often. I'd guess that the X5 maintenance schedule mentions it, but with only 3800 miles since December, I'm not anywhere near yet.

Cheers,
