you see the reliiablity and the price are independent of each other. the more complicated the engine or having more features, the car is more likely to break down. just like the 'luxurious' seat belt aduster on X5, it's a good idea but it rattles alot. whereas a cheap honda civic can last yrs without any problem because it's such a simple car.


I have read on this board more than once remarks from X5 owners stating that if build quality and reliability is what you want in a vehicle, one should buy a Lexus, not a bimmer.

I have never owned a bimmer (I have owned a Lexus) but I find this mindset hard to understand, for if I decide to pay $50K for an X5, I would just assume it would be extremely reliable.

Am I being naive? If build quality and reliability is important to me should I look at something other than the X5? I am not enough of a driving enthusiast to be happy with frequent trips back to the dealer for adjustments and fixes.

I am struggling with this issue and any thoughts you can share on this are greatly appreciated.
