Bad Fan Post.... Again... but new data (?) (archive)

I know we've flocked the bad fan topic to death but this "new" (?) data sheds some new light...

I have the supposedly 'bad fan'... part # 6 908 124 but my VIN was not on the list of recalls... so, I called BMWNA and they said it's not actually the FAN itself but some sort of relay with a seperate part # attached to the fan that is the problem, in general it was installed with the above fan number but not in every case.

Net Net... you can't determine if you have a bogus fan by the fan's part number you need to know if the relay was installed with that fan or not and without some mechanical acumen to get at it only BMW can tell you for sure. Also, the part number was used for both Seimens and Bosch supplied fans (this is all from BMWNA).
