The 2" square Class III receiver on both the BMW and Drawtite hitchs extend several inches past the oval, so with either hitch it is impossible to replace the oval cover intact. When the factory BMW hitch is installed, the oval plate is always left off because otherwise it blocks the factory wiring receptacle. Drawtite gives you a template to use if you choose to cut the oval cover so the hitch can pass through. In my opinion the Drawtite hitch looks neater with the oval cover trimmed in this manner, but if you prefer, do as the factory does and just leave the oval cover off.
