I have an '01' X5 with the Premium DSP sound system. First of all, I noticed that the panel which covers the subwoofers in the rear hatch area is solid - there is no cut out for the speakers - they are almost completely muffled by the solid rear panel. Did I get an incorrect rear panel cover? Secondly, comparing this BMW premium DSP sound system to the Bose system in my 7-year old Acura Legend - there is no comparison - the BMW sound system is not in the same league. I am feeling ripped off given the cost of the DSP system. Is there any way that I can tell if my BMW audio system is defective? What should I ask of the dealer? All of the features on the BMW system appear to be functional, but the quality of the sound is just plain mediocre. By the way, apart from the sound system, the X5 is a very good vehicle.
