Digi, I have an IR/Black E46M3 cab, and I must say I have mixed emotions. The chassis DOES have some flex, as any chop-top will. This manifests itself during the initial turn- in on a high speed corner.
I'm looking for a front tower brace.
While the car is fast, you can feel the additional weight of the cabrio. I drove the E46 M3 coupe before I made my purchase, and the coupe has a slightly quicker response to the loud pedal. Quoted 0-60 times for the cabrio fal in the 4.9 - 5.2 range.
My biggest disappointment with either the coupe or cabrio were the brakes- they simply are not up to the task of stopping the vehicle at speed. I honestly think my 4.4 X5 has better brakes. I've ordered the Euro rotors for the car, and I hope the braking improves. At this point, brake feel is flimsy.
All that said, I love the car. I'd lean toward the M3 if you can keep your X5 as well. My own X5 goes in for the Dinan software upgrade next week. One can never have too much power.
Whew! Sorry for the lengthy response.,
My dealer says he can get me an M3 convertible much quicker than the 4.6. Two very different cars, and I don't know what I might do at this point. Is the M3 convertible that much less of a car than the coupe, which he said had LONG waiting lists? I could see where there would be less structure, and maybe some flexing, but I was surprised, thinking more would want the convertible. I want to get the paddle shifter too.
