Went to a BMW dealer today to have them determine the value of my Explorer Eddie Bauer. It's in excellent condition, fully loaded, with lots of extra's. I went to the dealers website before going to the dealership and they have a link to calculate the value of your car for trade in. It uses Kelly Blue Book and the value I got was $8900. But, the asst. manager goes through my car and says he'll give $5300! I explain to him that his own website contradicts his value and he tells me it's just for marketing and to assist me, yet he couldn't quite explain how exactly it assist me by giving a different value. Nevertheless, after much arguement, I left and I'll deal with the manager during the week. But someone please explain this... shouldn't I get close to the trade in value that kelly blue book says? Especially if the dealer has this linked to their website!! What are your experiences on trade in value.
