the rear hatch lights. I can only get the overhead lights in the passenger area to shut off by holding the light button.

This question was posed some time ago but so far as I know, never answered. Is there a way to turn off the rear hatch lights when the hatch is left open for an extended time, (tailgate parties) to avoid battery drain? My MB E Class has a nice little pull switch under the trunk lid so that you can shut off the trunk light. I can't find anything similar on my X5 and the overhead light switch under the rear view mirror has no effect on the hatch lights of my 2000 4.4. Thanks.
