As pointed out by Alpina and others, waxing the wheels makes a big difference. I did them by hand but will probably try a spray wax next time. You still need to clean them but it is much easier--the dust seems to have less adhesion to the wheels and is easier to get off after waxing. It also protects the clear coat from other contaminants if you wax.


...as possible. Plain old mild soap and water does the trick. I use an old wash mit to get to the back of the wheel and a Zymol wheel cleaning brush to clean around the lug nuts and brake calipers. A light coat of spray wax (currently Zymol) also helps when all I have time for is a quick hose down of the rims. I have a feeling hardly anyone waxes their wheels for fear that it is either too anal and/or labour intensive. It takes me about 5 mins. The wheels are painted and have clear coat just like the paint on the rest of the vehicle which is why they should be treated the same IMO.
