I have owned 2 Jeep Cherokees, one Limited and one Grand Limited, both of which had much better intial quality than my 2001 X5 4.4. The X5 is an ideal vehicle for me, if I could keep it out of the shop (12 times in 12 months). I was trapped inside my X5 15 times last winter and no one could enter the front doors, nor I exit. Crawling out the back is no fun. Many will say I have a lemon. If this is true, BMW hasn't made much effort to correct this problem. Sure is more fun to drive than a Jeep, but not as capable off or bad road. Much safer in a crash. Much less safe in your garage.

All this said, it is exactly the type of vehicle I wanted with 4 wheel drive, extra power, safety?, handling, looks, and luxury. I probably would buy another and hope for a better one, but many days I think BMW is all name and no substance. You will be able to answer this last point for yourself, since you have had several other BMWs. I hope they aren't as bad as I think, or maybe the X5 is the exception to quality at BMW.
