I have owned several Jeeps in the past, two Grand Cherokees and one Wrangler. I have found the vehicles to be reliable and decent transportation, but definitely not a BMW.
When looking to sell my 2000 Wrangler and buy another SUV, I decided against the Jeep Grand Cherokee as it has had a number of reliability problems since its redesign in '99. My search led me to test drive an X5 and put a deposit on a 2002 X5 4.6is.
Now with all the reliability problems (including fires) that I have seen on this message board, I'm having second thoughts on the X5 purchase. I currently own a 2000 540i and 2000 MZ3 and a third BMW would certainly be nice. But I am beginning to wonder is spending $65K on an unreliable X5 makes any sense when I could buy a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with the High Output engine for $38K.
I am looking for someone to reassure me concerning my X5 purchase. But for those of you who have had problems with your X5, please don't be shy. Before I pop down $65K I want to be convinced that I'm making the right purchase.
Thanks
