According to BMW, about 60% are buying the 3.0. I think a lot of people are buying primarily for their wives. Thats fine, most women I know do not need the extra hspwr, sportier ride, etc.

Um... do you have anything to back this theory up? I find I'm slightly appalled that
a) you equate the smaller engine with women, and that even if that were true, that
b) you have the husband "buying for" the wife, rather than the woman buying for herself.

I know several women looking at X5's. As it turns out, they are the power hungry ones - their husbands are trying to talk them out of it.

As for the question, my understanding is that the 4.4SP is slightly harsher than the 3.0SP, but this is probably mostly due to the sportier 19" tires on the 4.4SP.
