?Perma Plate? (archive)

Have MY02 on order. My dealer provides something called Perma Plate (not a BMW product) which provides some sort of sealant/protecter for the paint, carpet, leather and dash. The brochure description of the carpet protector sounds a bit like scotchguard. Along with the initial application you get an annual 'detail' at the dealer(I don't know if this includes a reapplication)for as long as you have the car, at no addt'l cost. Price is $895. I wouldn't think that today's modern clearcoats and dashes would need a product like this, but just curious if anyone has any experience with this or similar products?

My main concern is the interior....so has anyone tried anything like a scotchguard on the carpet?
