BMW releases new integrated phones (Motorola, Siemens, etc) all the time in Europe, Asia, Australia, etc because they don't have to contend with all the different standards (CDMA, TDMA, GSM, AMPS, iDEN) that we do in the US; they have one, GSM. Since Germany and most other countries in the world use GSM, people in those countries can order and have their phones installed at the factory, where in the US we have to rely on BMWNA to develop and supply the phones that work on US phone standards/frequencies and then install them after the car get to a US dealer or VPC. Even with the 7-Series and Z8 where the phone is standard, the phone kit is not installed until the car gets to the VPC since the CPT-8000 and install kit are BMWNA parts and not BMW AG parts.
