For the ones that didn't have the chance to try the X5 diesel version...let me tell you...it's quite impressive having the same torque as the 4.4, HPs not too far from the 3.0 (the same if you do a chip tuning job on the ECU for around $ 800.-).

I really enjoyed the test back in August in Verbier (Switzerland) on a 4x4 special week event in the mountains. Even the engine sound has barely nothing to envy the gasoline engines, and it handles great for my expected country and mountain driving. I'll keep my old little Suzuki (Samourai) for the real tough off-road driving.

Why a Diesel? Well as I leave in Europe where gasoline is far more expensive than in the US, the 3.0D consumption is at least 30% less than the regular 3.0.

One of the best SUV diesel around (if not the best).

The big drawback is that I have to wait at least 9 months before getting it (hopefully it should be there by May 2002) as the demand is very high in Europe (hopefully none in the US as it is not proposed there).

Michel
