BMW is infamous for electrical troubles, the less electric gadgets you have the less problem you will have..

Hi all, I have a 2001 X5 4.4i non-SP w/standard audio and the BMW phone (Sprint) w/voice activation. The problem I'm having is that lately the battery keeps dying! I'm NOT happy about having to get jumpstarts, it's happened twice in the past three weeks. I did a bit of tinkering and noticed that the stereo system turns on when the phone is plugged in EVEN if the phone is off and the car is off. Is this normal??? No WONDER the battery keeps dying! I can unplug the phone every time I Get out of the car but that's a pain in the a**... anyone else have this problem?
