When I was testing X5s last April at Inskip BMW in Rhode Island there was an almost new, fully loaded 2001 4.4i sport with less than 1000miles on the clock. The sales manager said it had been turned in by the owner because "the gas tank had to be replaced". He didn't elaborate. I was anxious to purchase it despite the gas tank issue but the dealer still wanted list price even though it obviously wasn't new anymore. I wound up with a new 4.4i sport from another dealer.

"Has anyone had to experience the problem of not being able to put gas in a new 2001 X5? I went to three gas stations to make sure it wasn't me, had a friend help and then was laughed at by the entire dealership because I could not get gas to go into the tank but they couldn't either. They are now replacing the gas tank???????"
