Thanks,
Bharat
My 2001 X5 4.4L has been in the dealer for repairs so often that the car could probably drive the whole way automatically.
Here's a sample list of repairs:
1) front ball joints replaced
2) electronic thermostat control/computer replaced
3) passenger side power locks replaced due to freeze up in the winter
4) rear tailgate latch opening while driving, or not shutting properly. repaired twice
5) fan control unit malfunctioning. Recall item I believe.
6) gas tank level reading incorrect. Need to put gas cleaner additive to fix. Have been told that if this doesn't work they will have to replace the tank.
7) Windshield wiper motor/control malfunction.
8) Have been unable to identify cause of intermitent noise, close to gas tank. Mechanic suspects fuel pump is flaky, but unable to isolate yet.
AND, TODAY, the X5 died on the highway - engine light came on after frontend shaking, which I initially attributed to a flat tire. However, engine power decreased rapidly, and it fely like it was seizing or perhaps transmission binding??? Roadside assistance was great - came quickly and towed the car to the dealer for repairs to be done this week. I shudder to think about the cause.
Am I the only owner of an X5 lemon?? This is my first BMW, and probably my last.....
