I just ordered a X5 4.4 and am considering the dealer installed phone option. I am a gadget freak and like every option I can get but hesitating on the Motorola CDMA or TDMA phones that are offered. The areas where I intend to drive the car are sufficiently covered by GSM networks and as I travel frequently internationally I favor to have a GSM phone only.

1. Are the phones installed with exchangable "trannies" to allow easy upgrade to a later phone versions when available?

2. I assume that GSM phones are offered in Europe...Has anyone been able to get a GSM phone installed in the US yet? Is there a special kit for this?

3. Does the "Voice Input System - X5 w/navigation system" (Part no: 84 11 0 137 351) handle ONLY phone functions or does it include some voice control of other functions in the nav system as well?

4. Has anybody managed to install some other kind of phone in the armrest and established a transparent interaction with voice control and navigation system?

Regards,
Richard
