I just received my year end book and they still rate the X5 as the number 1 SUV/SAV but it is not check marked. Guess the recalls and other annoying problems have taken their toll albeit only by a small amount.

CR didn't even list the X5 as an alternative in a recent SUV test. FWIW, the Mercedes ML was actually the most troublesome car sold in the US in it's first year. Also FWIW the last 3 cars I bought were all recommended by CR at the time and 1 went on to make the "used cars to avoid" list. Using their results is like driving using your rear view mirror.
