Auto Tranny Light--Awake Indicator 1st Service (archive)

I am taking my 2001 X5 in soon for Service 1 (13700 mi).
Took delivery 12-2000. Have the always on awake indicator
on Auto Transmission selector. Has anyone had this fixed? BMWNA says it is not a defect. It IS supposed to go out after 15 minutes, is it not?
