I just drove from Upstate, NY to Boston in my X5 4.4. I have made the trip many times in another vehicle and have often set the trip-tic before I leave... I am very suspicious to say the least. For one, I am near certain that the speedometer and onboard computer are out of sync. I have read posts saying the same things I noticed such as the fact that when I set the average speed, it always reads between 4 and 9 miles off. Also, I noticed that after 1,000 miles, the "Limit" function is now off. For instance, if I set my limit at 85mph, I need to drive 89/90 mph before it says I am now going above 85. The light stops flashing when I go below 88. On my trip to Boston, I set the trip tic based on the mile marker and consistantly on the way there and on the way back, it was off nearly 4-6 miles per every 100 miles... What does this all mean potentially? I lease my vehicle... If this is off nearly 6 miles per 100 miles, that means that by the end of my lease I could have "lost" 2700 miles in my lease, or almost 2.5 months of driving... I am wondering if anyone else thinks this theory has weight and am also urging others to see if they experience the same results if they test it out over the next week or so. I am seriously hoping that this IS NOT the case and hope it is either an isolated incedent or I am off my rocker. Please prove my theory wrong. But... If my theory is correct, we need to bring it to the attention of BMW I think.
