I attempted the same project...

The head unit comes out real easy. Remove (by pulling) the volume button. Pull gently on the shaft... If the unit slides out - great. If not (more likely the case) turn the #10 torx screw under the volume shaft 90 degrees counter clockwise. This loosens a spring loaded hook.... head unit should now slide out very easily.

Casette deck is held in place with two allen screws. Looses the screws - don't worry - they wont fall out. Then, the casette unit slides out just as easily. Be careful around the wooden lid.

There's a large connector plug on the back of the casette deck. Using a large screwdriver, gently slide it upwards, just like the picture on the casette deck shows. Once you've done this, the plug is unlocked and can be pulled off.

Here's where I ran into trouble. The plugs on the back of the casette deck were completely different than on the CD player. The CD player had flat spade connectors, my casette player had round pin connectors.

So - I had to put the casette player back in...

What are the connector types on you CD player?

I'll be in my office tomorrow - call me if you want to discuss further 949-838-8085.
